Indian Cinema & Press Media - getting adulterated?

Today, while glancing through the supplementary edition of a famous newspaper, a quarter page article titled "Can Sunny Leone be the next Silk Smitha?" was an eye-catcher.  There have been lot of updates about this so-called "adult star" in the recent times all over the media.  With great surprise about what is special with this actor, further reading the article which had many excerpts of statements by several directors from Bollywood and Kollywood leaves you in shock and surprise .  These directors have unanimously stated that they are ready to cast her when they come across a suitable role.  

Who is this Sunny Leone?  She is an artist who has acted in several porn movies and have posed nude for several adult magazines in foreign countries, such as USA, Canada.


Pornography in India?  Pornography in any form, way, or fashion is prohibited and is an offense punishable by law in India.  Indian law prevents publication, selling, circulation, possession of adult magazines such as Playboy, Penthouse and offenders are punishable by law.  Needless to say, as like every other illegal thing, shops and publishers continue to publish erotic stories and pictures and circulate them illegally, without warranting much attraction from the eye of law.

When pornography is banned in India, what about a pornstar?  As part of evolution of film industry, separate associations for directors, producers, actors, co-artists, skilled workers, etc. exist to define rules and regulations in order to maintain peace in the film industry and to solve disputes.  More commonly, we read news about actors being banned for alleged violations of rules set by associations, be it for nonadherence to keep up the call sheet schedule, slander, libel or bad-mouthing.

As our film history stands, we have had glamour artists and, in the more years, item numbers, but they have all added a pinch of glamour to it and not explicit sexuality at all.

This type of articles promoting a porn star, when pornography is banned, must be condemned and prohibited.  More shocking are the statements of film directors.

What film industry is up to?  As the title stands, "Can Sunny Leone be the next Silk Smitha" It is really a shame comparing our film artists of any sort with a porn star.


Everyone will agree that there are a large number of talented artists in India and there is no reason for bringing a porn star into an industry, unless they are going to shoot real pornographic films.

Press behind money?  Publishing these types of articles on a quarter page which has news about other popular cine celebrities is highly unwarranted and objectionable.



Press media must act responsible and not publish these kind of "cheap" things just for the sake of sensation?

With the prevalent competition among press media, and the increasing circulation of newspaper, and as statistics read, Indian has the second largest circulation and newspaper readers in the world, publishing unworthy articles will deliver wrong message to the public.

What results will a kid get in Google if he searches for Sunny Leone?   The first thing would be pornstar.

What happens if a kid wants to know what is pornography and who is an adult star?

Concluding this with hopes that someone somewhere from a press media or film industry will read this and react to this.
